ABOUT

The International Young Musicians Academy was established in 2016 by founders Jeremy Young and Ally He, to create an inspiring event that gathered the talents of leading music professionals in the UK into one place to allow young aspiring musicians to access their expertise and experience to enable them broaden their cultural understanding of music in ways that may not available to them.

IYMA Summer School

The first IYMA masterclasses were held at Stowe School in Buckinghamshire in 2018, utilising the school’s All Steinway Piano facility. Professors from a wide range of prestigious music schools from around the UK including Royal Academy of Music, Royal Northern College of Music, Royal College of Music and Chetham's School of Music joined the impressive faculty. The students attending IYMA gained unprecedented access to the professors with master classes, one to one learning, guided group sessions, performance training and performance opportunities. This was supported by a series of professional recitals given by some of the world’s finest performing musicians.

In July 2019, the 2nd IYMA was held at Rugby School. With momentum gained from the initial first year - violin was introduced alongside piano. Adding new violin professors from the Royal Academy of Music enabled the festival to include ensemble playing thus expanding the opportunities for the young players whist providing the same unprecedented access to learn more.

Unfortunately, the global pandemic forced IYMA to suspend its planned activities at Rugby School in July 2020 though our tutors did provide online masterclasses globally with lessons given across Europe, America and Asia.

The IYMA summer school will return in 2022 with continued focus on learning from leading professors, building cultural curiosity and meaningful exchange. As always our goal is to understand how music works and the context in which it was written. IYMA hopes to give its students a strong foundation and healthy curiosity to go out and explore music and experience the many transferable skills that the pursuit of high art affords.
